Cycling Pulau Ubin, Singapore's last kampong island
Local tour guide in Singapore, Singapore.
I spent school holidays at my uncle's house on Pulau Ubin, catching mud crabs and cycling dirt tracks barefoot. The island still runs on well water and generator power, and I want you to feel that older Singapore before it fades. I keep my groups small, my bicycles well-oiled, and my route flexible, because if a wild boar family crosses our path or the tide reveals the flats at Chek Jawa, we stop and watch.
Take a bumboat to the island time forgot. We cycle shaded tracks past tin-roofed kampong houses and abandoned quarries turned emerald lakes, watch for hornbills and wild boar, and walk the boardwalk over Chek Jawa's rich coastal flats. This is village Singapore, one boat ride and fifty years away from the city.
