Island hopping the Southern Islands by ferry
Local tour guide in Singapore, Singapore.
My grandfather was a boatman who ferried pilgrims to Kusu Island every ninth lunar month, and I grew up on his stories of turtles, temples, and sea spirits. Today I lead small groups across the Southern Islands: St John's, Lazarus, Kusu. Clear lagoons, island cats, hilltop shrines, and not a single shopping mall. I pack the picnic, watch the tides, and bring my grandfather's stories along for the crossing.
Escape the city by public ferry to three islands most visitors never learn exist. We swim at Lazarus's crescent lagoon, one of Singapore's prettiest beaches, meet the resident cats of St John's, and climb to the Malay shrines and turtle sanctuary of Kusu. A full island day with picnic included and skyline views on the ride home.
