Kuala Lumpur heritage walks from Merdeka Square to Kampung Baru

Local tour guide in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

I am a KL girl with an architecture degree and a soft spot for the city everyone rushes past on their way to the towers. My walks move from colonial Merdeka Square through the old commercial streets of Chinatown to Kampung Baru, the Malay village that skyscrapers surrounded but never swallowed. I love showing how three communities built one city, and where to find the best banana fritters while we discuss it.

KL Heritage Walk: Merdeka Square to Kampung Baru

Trace Kuala Lumpur's story from muddy river confluence to modern metropolis. We start among Merdeka Square's Moorish-revival landmarks, wander the shophouses and wet market lanes of old Chinatown, and finish in Kampung Baru, where wooden village houses sit in the shadow of the Petronas Towers. Three communities, one remarkable city.
