Great Wall hikes on the quiet, wild sections

Local tour guide in Beijing, China.

I was born in a village beneath the Gubeikou section of the Great Wall, where my grandmother grazed goats along the ramparts. I have hiked and studied the Wall for twenty years, and I specialise in the quiet stretches: crumbling watchtowers, chestnut forests, and ridgelines where you might not meet another soul all day. I carry the permits, the picnic, and six hundred years of stories. You bring good boots.

Wild Great Wall: Gubeikou to Jinshanling Hike

Hike the Great Wall the way it deserves: wild, quiet, and stretching to the horizon. We traverse from unrestored Gubeikou towers to Jinshanling's dramatic ridgeline, walking original Ming brickwork through chestnut groves and mountain passes. Village lunch, round-trip transport from Beijing, and a guide who grew up beneath these ramparts.
